anadians helping Canadians — that’s the theme of this issue. Ca-

nadian businesses and organizations such as Helmets to Hardhats,

Lumeca Health, and AltaPro Electric are producing products and ser-
C vices that contribute to our quality of life.

Helmets to Hardhats, based in Ottawa, is a registered not-for-profit that helps ac-
tive reservists and veterans transition from military service into well-paid, highly

skilled second careers in construction and related industries.

Lumeca Health in Regina has developed an app (and has formed a partnership

with Cowessess First Nation) that serves as a virtual consultation tool, connecting
patients to doctors and ultimately increasing people’s access to healthcare.

AltaPro Electric LTD., an award-winning Edmonton-based company in the electri-

cal design-build industry, is responding to an increase in demand for solar instal-

lations, which result in fewer greenhouse gas emissions and savings on electric-
ity bills.

We also profile two modernization projects: one is taking place at Centre Block
on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and the other is underway at Port Saint John in Saint

John, New Brunswick. The restoration and modernization of Centre Block will pre-

serve its heritage character and will serve the needs of a 21st-century Parliament,
while the expansion of Port Saint John will boost shipping opportunities that will

have positive impacts on the local, provincial and national economies.
