y just after 12 noon on Jan. 4,
2016 — the first working day of
the New Year — Canada’s highest
paid CEOs had already earned more than
$48,600, the equivalent of the average full-
time employee’s annual salary.
In its annual examination of CEO pay in
Canada, the Canadian Centre for Policy
Alternatives (CCPA) found that the coun-
try’s top 100 CEOs made an average of
$8.96 million in 2014. According to CCPA
Research Associate Hugh Mackenzie, the
group’s total pay package “exceeds the
2014-15 budgetary deficits of every prov-
ince in Canada except Ontario, Quebec
and Newfoundland”.
