In the Spring of 2017, thousands of Que-
becers were forced to evacuate their
homes due to some of the worst flooding
in Southern Quebec recent history. Qui-
etly and steadfastly, hundreds of plumb-
ers, welders, and fitters from Local 144
Union spent weeks helping their fellow
neighbour reclaim their homes. Local 144
represents over 90 percent of those la-
bourers in the province, and its members
are passionate about their work and the
impact it has on its fellow citizens. We are
pleased to profile Local 144 in the March
issue of Business Elite Canada.
While federal politics is anything but
routine these days, at least the House of
Commons has settled into one with the
opening of the West Block. Take a look
inside to read about the days leading up
to the grand unveiling, and gain insight
into the work behind building the iconic
geometric glass ceiling. We spoke with
Walters Inc., the team also responsible for
the glass extension at the Royal Ontario
Museum, about marrying 21st century de-
sign into Canada’s most historic building.

“It was one of those March days
when the sun shines hot and
the wind blows cold: when it is
summer in the light, and winter
in the shade.”—Charles Dickens
