As Alberta’s electricity system continues to evolve, the need for reliable, flexible energy storage is becoming increasingly important. The growth of renewable generation, rising electricity demand and the modernization of the province’s power market are creating new opportunities for technologies that can store energy when it is abundant, and deliver it when it is needed. One project aiming to address that challenge is the Marguerite Lake Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) Project, currently under development in northeastern Alberta.
