Dear readers,
It’s
a time of change. In most parts of the country, there’s a chill in the air, the leaves are showing a brilliant display of
fall colours and our thoughts are turning to the final quarter of 2014. It’s a time when we close our pools and cottages,
pull out the fall wardrobe and brace ourselves for whatever Mother Nature has in store this winter.
Inside
this issue of Business Elite Canada magazine, we look at change across some of Canada’s most innovative sec-
tors. For many organizations, change can bring growth and opportunity. Others leap at an idea and forge ahead in a
different direction.
That’s
exactly what is happening in the municipality of Dawson Creek in northeastern British Columbia. Led by
Mayor Dale Bumstead, the community is heading boldly into a new area of innovation by transforming itself from an
agricultural-based region to one focused on LNG, or liquefied natural gas. A new $22-million plant located in the heart
of the city is expected to improve the quality of life for remote communities currently relying on propane as their fuel
source.
Discover
how the province of British Columbia is on the forefront of LNG production with 18 LNG project proposals
in various stages of progress. By working with companies and investors around the world, British Columbia is ready
to cater to the global energy market and make a significant contribution to Canada’s GDP.
Heading
east, we take a look at the city of Sarnia in southwestern Ontario as it celebrates its 100
th
anniversary and
surrounding Lambton County, an area with strong roots in the oil and gas industry and a reputation as a growing
leader in biofuel technologies.
We
also talked to Bibby-Ste-Croix, which opted to modernize rather than close one of its primary Quebec foundries.
One of the leaders in the building envelope industry, CLEB, made a change this year by rebranding their two compa-
nies under a new name designed to create a stronger synergy. Finally, we all know that aging is a kind of transforma-
tion in itself and that’s why Drive Medical is committed to developing products that help seniors stay independent as
long as possible.
Our
featured companies are always looking to the future, and so are we. In the next issue of Business Elite Canada,
we’ll profile some of the most outstanding companies from Deloitte’s Best Managed program. We’ll also talk to key
players in the oil and gas industry, and find out how technology is impacting their organizations. And join us as we
celebrate with the Saskatchewan Construction Association, which marks its 50th anniversary this year.
